Through natural methods and consistent dedication, Wilson shed 80 pounds (about 36 kg), proving that with the right approach, transformative change is possible.

Although her “Year of Health” officially wrapped up on December 31, 2020, Wilson has stayed committed to her health habits for several years since then. According to an article from Women’s Health, it was during a visit to her fertility doctor in 2019, that Rebel was told was told she would have a better chance of successfully retrieving and freezing her eggs if she lost weight. In Rebel’s own words, this appointment switched her thinking.

It’s almost like I didn’t think of my own needs. I thought of a future child’s needs that really inspired me to get healthier.

Research highlights that public accountability, such as sharing progress with a supportive community, can boost motivation in weight-loss efforts. Rebel Wilson achieved a dramatic weight loss of approximately 80 pounds (36 kilograms) which took her nearly a year of sustained effort. This weight loss aligns with recommendations from health organizations, which advocate for gradual weight loss of 1–2 pounds per week for sustainable health benefits. Losing weight too fast can actually have several side effects including muscle loss, lower metabolism, and nutrient deficiencies. Furthermore, losing weight is only half the battle. The real challenge lies in keeping it off for good. Most people who follow a diet end up regaining half the weight they’ve lost after only a year. This is why it’s recommended to lose weight at a slow but steady pace; studies show that people who stick to this are more likely to keep the weight off long-term.

With Wilson’s weight loss of 80 pounds a few years ago, she successfully reached her target weight of 165 pounds (75 kilograms). Since then, she has reported gaining a few pounds here and there.   • Exercise: a key component

Additionally, she has incorporated workouts with a trainer focused on strength and conditioning. She tries to maintain a routine of exercising six out of seven days a week, where she aims to do 60 minutes of workout with her trainer and 60 minutes of her own cardio, which was usually walking. Additionally, she leaves one day per week for rest.

Since Wilson hit her goal weight, she is sticking with walks as her main exercise activity and treats her muscles well in between walks by soaking in her bath with Epsom salt or bath oil.

You can’t out-train a bad diet, which is something I should have known but didn’t really know until this year.”

Protein is also essential for building muscles and the more muscles you have, the more calories you burn. Although Wilson focused on maintaining a high-protein diet, she admits that her main focus isn’t to “eat clean” every day but to eat mindfully, focusing on how her body feels after she consumes everything she does.

Since hitting her target weight goal, Wilson has let loose a bit more by incorporating more snacks, plus occasional ice cream and chocolate, into her menu to make it more “maintainable.” She’s also focusing on including more healthy ingredients into her favorite dishes to maintain a balance between eating healthy and treating herself, such as tucking shredded carrots and avocados into her tacos.

Debunking the rumors – weight-loss pills

Wilson reports that she used it to help maintain her weight since she could have a bottomless appetite for sweets and issues with emotional eating. However, she also states that she doesn’t want young people to “obsess” over their looks and that young women shouldn’t aspire to look like Victoria’s Secret Models, but rather embrace their own appearance and just look like themselves.

Ozempic is a class of medications called “GLP-1 receptor agonists”. These medications mimic a hormone released from the digestive tract called glucagon-like peptide (GLP-1), which helps lower blood sugar and gives a feeling of fullness. If you take Ozempic, your body will make more GLP-1, which naturally decreases your appetite and makes you feel fuller. When you feel fuller, you will naturally eat less thereby limiting your calorie intake which can promote weight loss. Research also suggests that Ozempic can change your body’s reaction to food intake and weight loss.

The Mayr Method is a diet plan developed by Dr. Franz Xaver Mayr in the 1920s. The diet is based on the principle that improving your gut health is key to promoting weight loss and health. With this, the diet focuses on improving digestion and promoting mindful eating. Key principles include:

  • Chewing food thoroughly: Eating slowly and chewing well aids digestion and prevents overeating, a principle supported by numerous studies.
  • Avoiding processed foods: Processed foods are often high in sugar and unhealthy fats, contributing to weight gain. The diet encourages whole, nutrient-dense foods.
  • Fasting periods: Similar to intermittent fasting, the Mayr Method sometimes incorporates periods of fasting to give the digestive system a rest.

There have been several rumors fluctuating that Wilson’s weight loss was due to her following the Mayr Method. This might partly be due to the actress visiting a luxury medical resort associated with the method on several occasions. However, she has cleared up rumors about this, clarifying that she hasn’t adopted the Mayr Method to help her lose weight. She has also warned her fans not to “get scammed” by different weight loss methods out there.
